District 1 Representatives
Greg Fischer
Greg Fischer is a business consultant.
Fischer is a huge supporter of environmental action and recognizes that change needs to happen now. He plans to push green energy initiatives such as off-shore wind energy in Long Island. These types of movements will hopefully build momentum in order to make a larger difference in the state and nation. We need politicians who will fight to promote environmentally friendly technology and policies, and Fischer will do that. Fischer understands how urgent the issue of climate change is and we would like to see him using these stances in Congress.
Nancy Goroff
Nancy Goroff is a College Professor & Chemist.
Goroff is an experienced scientist, which gives her a unique perspective in regards to the issue of climate change. Her plans to advance research and use existing technologies to reduce carbon emissions are promising and show that she takes the issue seriously. Goroff’s focus on climate issues will help set the state on the right track to becoming carbon neutral.
Perry Gershon
Perry Gershon is a lending Corporation Executive.
Gershon realizes the need for environmental change now. He pledges to support restrictions on carbon emissions as a state and nation and to transitioning to green energy. This type of action is extremely important and Gershon is willing to push for it. One of his specific plans is to rejoin the Paris Agreements in order to reach carbon emission reduction and climate change mitigation goals. . This would help the U.S. keep up with other countries as they become more sustainable, incentivizing cheaper and greener methods. Gershon’s support of environmental action and his specific plans make him a great candidate for the position.
Bridget Fleming
Bridget Fleming is a Suffolk County Legislator, Ex-Southampton Town Councilwoman & Attorney
Fleming regards “preserving our natural environment” as one of the main focuses of her campaign. She recognizes environmental protection as an extremely important issue. However, we are looking for more bold commitments and her lack of specific plans to reduce emissions in the area leaves some room for improvement.
Lee Zeldin
Lee Zeldin has been an incumbent since 2015. His Lifetime LCV Score: 13% Rank: Bad
Zeldin boasts on his campaign website that he supports the Long Island Sounds Program and the National Estuary Program. In reality, his voting record shows that he consistently votes for legislation that has negative effects on the environment. He often votes against bills that will provide funding towards fighting climate change.
We cannot afford to have people who ignore the severity of climate change in our Congress. Electing Zeldin would be a step back for America in the issue of climate change. All in all, Zeldin doesn’t see environmental protection as an important issue and therefore will lead the state in the wrong direction.
